This weekend sees the start of a £3million boost to the borough’s health and fitness as a private operator takes over its leisure facilities.
From Saturday, Fusion Lifestyle will be running eight sites in Bedford including Robinson Pool, Kempston Pool, Oasis Pool, Bedford International Athletic Stadium, Bunyan Centre and Mowsbury Golf and Squash Complex.
The ten-year deal struck with Bedford Borough Council will see the leisure management charity invest £3million into improving and upgrading the sites in the coming years, including £1.2million at the Bunyan Centre.
The contract also covers Kempston Outdoor Activity Centre and its partner site Blue Peris, in Snowdonia.
To celebrate the handover of operations, Fusion Lifestyle is holding an open weekend on February 22 and 23 at the Bedfordshire sites, giving residents the chance to try out some of the activities on offer.
Bedford Borough Council’s portfolio holder for leisure and culture Councillor Doug McMurdo said: “It’s great to be able to reassure residents of the borough that along with new capital investment in our leisure sites these facilities will be maintained and operated to a high standard over the next 10 years by our new leisure partner, Fusion.”
A new website – www.bedfordleisure.com – will be live from Saturday, which will host timetables for each of the centres, allow you to book sessions, and sign up to become a member.
