Bedford hospital hits A&E targets

Despite 'exceptional' pressure on services at Bedford Hospital, it has hit its A&E targets.

More than 95 per cent of patients attending accident and emergency in 2015/16 were seen, treated, admitted or discharged within four hours - a key Government target.

Hospital chief executive Stephen Conroy said: “Our staff have worked incredibly hard to achieve this notable result.”

He added the hospital is committed to investing in its A&E department in order to cope with further strain on the service as the local population ages and becomes sicker.

It is expected only a small number of acute trusts in the country have hit this target, and Bedford Hospital has throughout the year been one of the best performing trusts in the country.
