Hard work pays off on results day
Students at Redborne Upper School and Communtiy College celebrate
Teenagers were breathing a sigh of relief as they opened their GCSE results this morning.
Redborne Upper School and Community College in Ampthill saw 80 per cent of its pupils achieve five A* to C grades.
And 70 per cent of students achiecved five A* to C grades including English and maths.
Headteacher Nigel Croft said: "I am delighted with these grades. I would like to pay tribute to all the staff and students who have worked incredibly hard.
"With some excellent A-level results last week the school has had a very good year."
High-flying students included Alexander Howard and Jack Wildman who achieved eight A*s, four As and one B.
Josie Appleby achieved eight A*s and three As, and Imogen Diver received six A*s and seven As.
Students and staff at Rushmoor School celebrated as standards continued to rise.
High flyers included Patrick Spencer who achieved nine GCSEs including three A*s and four A grades.
Also celebrating was William Harbird who gained six A and A* grades and James Watson who gained five A and A*s.
Headteacher Ian Daniel said: "We are all immensely proud of our pupils and they have been rewarded for their hard work and the dedication they have shown throughout their education at Rushmoor."
And pupils at Wootton Upper School brought home the best results in the school's history with 82 per cent of students gaining A* to C grades.
Particularly pleasing results came from science where 77 per cent of students achieved at least two GCSE passes at A* to C.
Harlington Upper School also celebrated outstanding results with 87 per cent of students gaining GCSE grade C or above.
72 per cent of the year group gained five or more GCSEs at grade C or above including English and mathematics.
Headteacher Shawn Fell said: "The GCSE results at Harlington are again outstanding this year.
"Students have worked very hard and should be congratulated on their achievements.
"There have been lots of delighted students and parents collecting results, well done to all."
And Bedford Modern School students also achieved their best ever results.
65 per cent of students scored an A* or A grade and 99 per cent of students took home an A* to C grade.
Excellent individual performances came from Nick Fox, who obtained 11 A* grades and James Hunt who has 10 A* grades.
Headteacher Michael Hall said: "We are delighted that this year's GCSE students have broken all previous records.
"Particularly pleasing is that such an excellent academic standard has been achieved alongside our co-curricular programme."
And students of former failing school John Bunyan worked hard to score the school's highest results in its history.
High flyers were Luke Hunt and Hayley Smith who each achieved 12 and a half GCSE passes.
89 per cent of students got five A* to C grades, 28 per cent of those also scooped a full complement in maths and English.
Headteacher Ursula Byrne said: "We are absolutely thrilled with our results.
"When I came into this school it was bordering on anarchy but we have turned it around with the same staff, the same area and children from the same neighbourhoods.
"Our philosophy is education, education, education and it appears to have worked in a brand new, can do culture."
Pupils from Bedford High School for Girls were also celebrating after a quarter of the year group collected all A* and A grades.
27 per cent of the grades achieved by the girls were A* and many will go on to study in the school's sixth form or at top boarding schools and colleges.
Headteacher Julie Eldridge said: "This is an excellent start for our girls and the noise we have heard today just goes to show how pleased they all are.
"We are all absolutely delighted with the results which have exceeded our expectations, this is really down to their hard work as a lot of this year group have pulled out all the stops to succeed."
And at Dame Alice Harpur School teachers hailed pleasing results from pupils, 97 per cent of which received A* to C grades.
27 per cent of the grades picked up were A*.
Headteacher Jill Berry said: "This is a great stepping stone for many of the girls to progress to A-levels.
"This is particularly pleasing because we are not selective and our aim is to make every girl the best that she can be.
"We are very happy with the results."

Bedford School pupils were also celebrating successes with 92 per cent of all results being A* to B grades.
High flyers were William Heywood, Giles Neal and Sam Rayner who scored a clean sweep of A* grades.
Headmaster John Moule said: "After last year's excellent GCSEs were not necessarily expecting the 2010 crop to be better, but they are.
"Naturally we are delighted and congratulations are due to all the boys, who have worked hard to achieve them."
Biddenham Upper School has enjoyed a record breaking year with 68 per cent of students achieving five good GCSEs.
Nearly half of those who sat exams at the school also scored well in English and maths.
High achievers were Chloe Macinnes who took home eight A* grades and five As and Deborah Meniru who scored five A*s and five As.
Headteacher David Bailey said: "Progress has been phenomenal this year and we are extremely proud of the achievements of all our students who have worked tremendously hard alongside their teachers to achieve fantastic grades."
And finally Mark Rutherford pupils can be very proud of themselves too.
High achievers included Sherice Banton who took home seven A* grades and seven As and Sophie Ben Taib who scored six A*s and six As.
