Bedford Green Party ran a music night at Esquires to raise funds for the party and Prebend Day Centre for the homeless. From blues to reggae, ska and ‘surf punk’, local acts gave their time for free and helped raise £320. Green Party campaigner Lucy Bywater said: “Prebend Day Centre, which provides showers, meals and other support, is facing a really tough time. It used to get £96,000 per year from the Borough but that has fallen to £18,000. It’s not surprising we’re seeing so many more homeless people on the streets of Bedford now.”

She praised the centre’s staff and volunteers but added: “they simply cannot provide the same support as they used to.”
