Young people are being encouraged to take an active interest in art and culture with the launch of a new website.
The Cultural Challenge site sets out various ‘checklists’ under headings such as Art and Crafts, Words and Verse, and History and Heritage.
Children are then challenged to complete the tasks which might include going to a museum, meeting an artist, investigating their family history or going to the theatre.
Bedford Culture Network launched the site after working with teachers and people from arts and cultural fields.
Bedford Creative Arts associate producer Kayte Judge said: “It is with great pride that we are launching the Culture Challenge in Bedford. The wealth and quality of the cultural provision here is really quite astonishing and we hope this initiative will enable more young people and schools to access the fantastic opportunities available to them.”
The site is primarily aimed at teachers and acts as a directory of people who will share their talents with children.
Its aim is to get more children enjoying and participating in the arts after research shows it improves attainment across all areas.
The site, www.culturechallenge.co.uk, is being tested by 12 school, including Beauchamp Middle School, Brickhill.
