Here's your chance to be an extra on the Batman movie set

Holy capacious casting couches, caped Crusader – they need 1,000 extras for Cardington's Batman bonanza!

Movie mayhem is set to grip Bedford after a major provider of "background artists" to the film industry announced plans to recruit in the town for a "Hollywood motion picture".

The name of the film and the exact location of the production are not being confirmed by extras agency 2020 Casting, headed by Christopher Villiers.

But Mr Villiers – who in the past has provided extras for big budget movies like Gladiator, Saving Private Ryan, and Die Another Day – said he needed to sign up 1,000 people for filming in the area in June and July.

It is believed they are wanted for the new Batman film to be made partly in one of the Cardington hangars.

Christian Bale and Michael Caine are among the A-list names lined up to take part in the latest silver screen adventure for Gotham City's famous caped crimefighter.

Mr Villiers said: "It's a major Hollywood feature film and this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for people to see what 99 per cent of the population will never see – how a multi-million pound film is made.

Maybe they will end up in the film, maybe on the cutting room floor.

"But they will get the chance to see how a film is put together from tiny pieces, how much time it takes, and how much waiting around is involved."

Mr Villiers's company is all set to bring a touch of Tinsel Town to Goldington over the Bank Holiday weekend.

2020 Casting will set up shop at The Place theatre in Bradgate Road on Sunday, May 30, and will also be hosting sessions on the following two days.

Anyone who wants a chance to be an extra should go along to one of the open auditions, where they will be photographed and where National Insurance numbers and other details will be taken.

Anyone hoping for a part will need to be over 18, be able to attend a costume fitting, and be able to take time off when required between June 21 and July 26.

Hopefuls should not wear either all-black or all-white outfits or clothes that hide their body shapes.

Mr Villiers said: "We want as many people as possible over the three days and don't mind what size they are, what colour, creed, or religion, provided they have a good alarm clock and transport."

The auditions run from 1.30pm to 8.30pm on the Sunday, 10am to 7pm on Bank Holiday Monday, and 10am to 7pm on the Tuesday.
