A former councillor will stand trial on sex assault charges later this year.

Paul Prescod, of Cynthia Court, Wootton, appeared at Luton Crown Court yesterday (Tuesday).

He is charged with five counts of sexual assault on a female and pleaded not guilty to the offences in June this year.

A trial date has not yet been set but the legal teams will meet again on October 20.

Mr Prescod, 50, previously represented Wootton as a Liberal Democrat councillor at Bedford Borough Council. He did not run for re-election in May and was suspended from the Lib Dem party in October last year.
