Harrold-Odell Country Park hosted visitors on Monday for the opening of the new boardwalk on their Dragonfly Pond.
Until now, the pond could only be accessed in summer as the low level of the banks meant the area was prone to flooding.
The new platform will provide year round access to the pond, which hosts a wealth of flora and fauna.
The friends of Harrold–Odell Country Park undertook the project to raise nearly £11,000 to build the boardwalk, which was topped up with a £500 contribution from Harrold Ward Councillor Alison Foster from her ward funding, and an additional £1,000 from Bedford Borough Council’s Disability, Equality and Access Team.
A council spokesman said: “The Friends of Harrold-Odell Country Park and Bedford Borough Council staff have worked hard to bring the project together and make this beautiful and tranquil spot accessible for visitors throughout the year.”
The structure of the boardwalk was completed in April 2016 and was officially opening by Councillor Foster.
