We are searching for the district’s most beautiful garden - could it be yours?

Our search for the Times & Citizen Garden of the Year 2011 is now under way!

There are prizes up for grabs in a whole range of categories in our popular annual garden competition - and this year we have two new exciting categories.

Once again we have teamed up with Frosts at Willington and Bedford In Bloom as we bid to root out the best gardens in the area.

Entry is absolutely free and category winners and runner-ups will receive vouchers to spend at Frosts at Willington. The best entry overall is crowned Times & Citizen Garden of the Year!

This time we have two new categories - best commercial display, which is open to all businesses, pubs and restaurants - and young gardener, open to children aged seven to 14.

The full list of categories is as follows: best large front garden (over 50sq m), best small front garden (under 50sq m), best large back garden (over 70sq m), best small back garden (under 70 sq m), best commercial display, best community garden, best school garden, best allotment/ vegetable garden, best young gardener.

All you have to do is make your garden look its very best, then complete and submit an entry form together with a colour photo of the garden.

Judges will assess how pleasing the garden is to the eye, and how well the overall design works in relation to the size of the garden.

The variety, colour, overall maintenance and general health of planting will be considered.

And judges will also be keeping an eye out for use of composting, recycling water, encouragement for wildlife, and fruit and vegetables.

Entries need to be submitted by June 20 so it’s time to get busy! You can download your form by clicking on the link on the right.

Print it off, complete it, attach a colour photo of your garden and send it to Garden Of The Year 2011, Frosts at Willington, Sandy Road, Willingotn, Beds MK44 3QP.

Happy gardening!
