Are you the green-fingered type with the best back or front yard in the neighbourhood?

Or is your forte hanging baskets and containers?

If so, the 2015 Times & Citizen Garden of the Year is back!

Once again, we’ve teamed up with Frosts Garden Centre in Willington to give our readers a chance to show off their plot, large or small.

And for those who don’t have a garden, don’t worry. There are a host of other categories for you to enter with some great prizes to be won.

We will be running the competition alongside our sister paper, the Biggleswade Chronicle.

If you have a garden that is an oasis of greenery or has plenty of colourful flowers, we want to hear from you.

As the weather turns mild and is perfect for gardening, now is the chance to show us what you can do.

The full list of categories is:

l Best front garden

l Best large back garden

l Best small back garden

l Best hanging baskets/containers

l Best community garden

l Best school/pre-school garden

l Best allotment/vegetable garden

l Best water conservation garden

The judges, Maurice Rust and James Allen, will be looking for excellence, character and that indefinable magic that makes a garden truly special.

Marks are awarded for overall impression (design and layout), planting (variety, colour and maintenance), sustainability (composting, recycling, encouraging wildlife, growing fruit and vegetables) while allotments or vegetable gardens will be judged on composting, mix of crops, freedom from pests and diseases.

Last year’s winner of the best large back garden prize was Pavenham couple Mark and Judith Jeffrey, who were also the Bedford area winners.

Entering is easy. Just take a colour photograph of your garden looking its best and complete a form, available shortly from this newspaper or from Frosts in Willington.

Send or hand in your completed form and photo to Willington Garden Centre, Sandy Road, Willington, Bedford, MK44 3QP.

The deadline for entries is June 30.

We are hoping for a large number of entries again this year so dig for victory!
