Uni chief set for new role

PROFESSOR Les Ebdon is expected to be given a new government role helping students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Prof Ebdon, has been vice-chancellor and chief executive of the University of Bedfordshire (formerly Luton University) for eight years, has been named by ministers as their preferred candidate for the next Director Of The Office For Fair Access.

The appointment is subject to Parliamentary approval and MPs will meet on Thursday to consider the recommendation.
