Tributes pour in for ‘incredible’ nursery manager - school closes for day in her honour

Tributes have been flooding in for a much-loved nursery manager who died after fighting cancer.

Sue Kumar, 45, who died on Saturday, September 6, worked at Castle Lower School, Bedford, for 26 years, starting as a nursery nurse.

The school closed in tribute on Thursday, September 18, when her funeral was held at Bedford Crematorium.

In 2007 she became the nursery manager where colleagues said she showed great enthusiasm and dedication. She also volunteered as a bereavement councillor at St John’s Hospice in Moggerhanger, supporting many people after the loss of their loved ones.

Sandi Goduti, a long-time colleague of Mrs Kumar’s said: “Sue had an infectious sense of humour and was very friendly. With her professional attitude it earned her the love and respect of all children, parents and staff.”

Lucy Fensome, a close friend, said: “Sue was a very special person and will be missed by everyone in the school community and beyond.”

Alice Smith, whose three children attended Mrs Kumar’s nursery, told the T&C: “She was all about the children. She was very committed to every single child. She was an incredible person.”

Alice also penned a moving tribute on her blog saying: “Thank you for being Mrs Kumar. Wise and kind and vivacious.” http://theadventuresofsarahandalice.wordpress.com/2014/09/17/goodbye-mrs-kumar/
