Not goodbye, but farewell
AN EXECUTIVE headteacher who helped a school turn around from being given ‘Notice To Improve’ to receiving glowing reports from Ofsted inspectors will stand down at the end of the summer term.
Ursula Byrne, who joined the school in September 2010, will hand over the reins to new headteacher Karen D’Angelo.
She acknowledged the work of staff, pupils, parents and governors.
Mrs Byrne said: “The undoubted highlight of the autumn was the Ofsted visit. Four inspectors spent two days looking at the quality of 27 lessons, examining the workbooks & progress of our children, and talking with pupils, staff, and governors.
“They also considered responses from 162 parents and carers to a detailed questionnaire. Their conclusion – that the school has shown very rapid and significant improvement, has many good features and there is a calm purposeful ethos – was warmly welcomed by the whole school community.
“Teachers have continued to build on these very strong foundations. Year Five have made real strides in their learning, Year Six pupils and their teachers have worked hard towards the recent SATs, and we confidently expect the 2012 results to be the best the school has ever achieved.
“Year Seven and Eight, too, have demonstrated engagement and enthusiasm, have shown they want to learn and made fantastic progress.”
