Bedford Modern Junior School teacher Ed Warren, is taking part in the Virgin London Marathon on April 21 raising funds for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

Ed was inspired to take part in the capital’s event by one of his pupils.

He said: “Year 4 pupil, Jack Burnett, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in 2007 and is now in remission.

“Last year, 10-year old Jack was chosen as the ‘Local Hero’ for the Cambridge leg of Sir Ian Botham’s Great British Walk and Junior School staff together with Year 3 and Year 4 pupils took part in the sponsored walk around Wimpole Hall.

“I am impressed with the bravery and courage that Jack displays and, although I have never run a marathon before, I wanted to get involved in the London 2013 Marathon and raise funds for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.”

Jack’s mother, Erika Burnett said: “We think it is wonderful that Mr Warren has chosen to run this year’s marathon in aid of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research and want to thank him for all the encouragement and support he has given Jack.”

Bedford Modern School’s health and fitness manager, Louise Dear, has devised a specialist training programme for Ed involving weekly sessions in the School’s Fitness Suite in order for him to reach optimum physical fitness.
