Dean up for notable award
A university chief has been nominated for a prestigious award.
Doctor Sonal Minocha, dean at the University of Bedfordshire, is one of four people to be shortlisted in the Woman of the Year category in the 2012 Asian Achievers’ Awards, which recognises outstanding work across all professions within the Asian community.
Hailing from the Indian capital of New Delhi, Dr Minocha started her role as dean of the University’s Business School in January and has already made an impressive impact.
Dr Minocha, 32, said: “It’s great to be recognised, although I’m slightly embarrassed.
“My aim now is to ensure that those around me get the same opportunities that I got.”
She added: “We want to nurture and develop people who will ask difficult questions and make a difference in society. It’s only the beginning.”
Vice chancellor of the University of Bedfordshire, Les Ebdon, said: “Her challenging vision and tremendous energy are well on the way to making our business school internationally recognised.”
The Asian Achievers’ Awards, now in its 12th year, is hosted by Asian Business Publications. The winners will be announced on September 14 at Grosvenor House, Park Lane, London and will be selected by an independent panel of judges.
