Full time students at Bedford College can now claim £450 to help with travel costs.
For the first time, the bursary is not dependant on the student having a low household income and any 16 to 18 year-old, who lives more than three miles from the campus they attend can claim the help.
Principal and CEO of the college Ian Pryce, said: “That £450 is real incentive to working parents whose children are not eligible for any financial help with their education.
“We recognise that the cost of travelling in from rural areas to Bedford and Kempston, or from anywhere to Old Warden, is a considerable slice from a household budget.”
He added: “We do not want to penalise parents who are working as we want everyone to have the chance to send their child to take up our wide range of employment-orientated courses, or join our expanding sixth form college in Bromham Road.”
Potential or current students can find out whether they are eligible by going to www.bedford.ac.uk/travel and entering their home postcode.
