The Retirement Education Centre (REC) in Bedford has announced the REC Trust Bursary Scheme funded by The Harpur Trust.

Based in Rothsay Gardens, the REC is a registered charity dedicated to providing education, social and recreational activities to anyone over 50 and not in full-time employment. They also offer weekend, summer and evening courses to anyone aged 18 and over.

The scheme offers bursaries to up to 10 people per year for either a year-long course, or three one-term courses, up to the value of £174.

Applicants must be Bedford borough residents and able to provide evidence of being in receipt of Pension Credit and pay the annual membership, currently £38 per year - this can be paid in instalments to suit the applicant.

The new course brochure for 2014-15 year is available at the REC, TIC, Bedford Library, Age UK and in selected shops and cafes around Bedford and course bookings are now open.

To apply, applicants need to contact Caroline Bacon, Centre Manager on 01234 302203/4 or at caroline@recbedford.co.uk

Applications will be on a first-come first-served basis.

In addition, the REC is also offering evening classes from September, including new language courses in Italian, French, Spanish and English as a Second Language. These courses are open to anyone over 18 and non-members.
