All schools in Bedford will move to a two-tier system after a public consultation revealed strong support for change.
The borough council voted unanimously to make the transition and will now invest more than £25 million in forming primary and secondary schools.
Portfolio Holder for Education Cllr Henry Vann said: “The consultation demonstrated support for this decision and we will continue to work closely with schools and parents to keep everyone informed as the changes happen.
“I am confident that the change will deliver the best results for young people now, and in the future.
Fifty-four schools will change, and with those who are already a primary or secondary and the Wootton Cluster, account for all in the borough.
