A SCHOOL has been awarded green flag status for the fourth time.
Environmentally friendly Greenfield Lower School has once again been given the Green Flag Award for all its environmental education at school.
This is the school’s fourth green flag, which is the highest award given by the Eco-Schools programme and needs to be renewed every two years.
The award was granted after an assessor from Eco-Schools visited staff and children from the school’s eco-committee.
The assessor said: “The pupils are clearly at the heart of the Eco-Schools programme within the school.
“They were keen and enthusiastic and it was obvious to see that Eco-Schools has been embraced by the whole school.”
Assistant headteacher Jane Staff said: “I’m really pleased we have got the award again. We try to be as environmentally friendly as we can, and the kids really enjoy getting involved.
“Our newest venture is the introduction of two wormeries in the school garden.
“The children collect fruit and vegetable waste from their snacks and from the school kitchen and put these into the wormeries.
“We are looking forward to having fertile compost and liquid fertiliser to help our fruits and vegetables to grow.”
