Budding cricket stars at Lincroft Middle School in Oakley had the chance to learn from an Ashes star player.

One of the England women team members who won the Ashes in Oz, Lydia Greenway, dropped in to the school to help promote cricket for girls - and also to pass on some useful tips.

Lydia has just returned home following a successful Ashes tour and was visiting as a ‘Chance to Shine’ ambassador, to promote girls cricket in schools.

The girls, from year 7 and 8 who will play under 13 games, enjoyed a coaching session with Lydia and a question and answer session.

The team has only been playing for a few weeks, having been in training with Will Sneath, one of the Beds cricket coaches, so the visit from Lydia proved an inspiring experience. She joined the school’s assembly and also signed lots of autographs.

The Lincroft Middle cricketing girls will be taking part in the ladies’ Taverners tournament held at the Bunyan Centre in April, competing against teams from across the district.
