A little donkey has been coaching a young actor to help him bag a part in a stage production of Pinocchio.

Normally Andy, who lives at The Isle Of Wight Donkey Sanctuary, is busy at this time of year with Nativity work but for his best friend and benefactor, John Trevillion, he found time to pass on his method acting tips.

When 10-year-old John heard the production was looking for youngsters to play the naughty boys who are turned into donkeys, he headed south for a masterclass.

John, who attends Margaret Beaufort Middle School, in Riseley, adopted the grey donkey at the sanctuary a year ago.

He said: “Andy is the perfect role model for the part, but unlike him, I promise I won’t try to eat anybody’s hat.”

Andy’s coaching paid off and John secured his part from more than 200 youngsters who auditioned for the show.

Pinocchio is playing at The Castle Theatre, Wellingborough, until December 30.

It is directed by Luke Sheppard, associate director of the hit show Matilda, currently running in London.
