Don’t miss the school places deadline

The deadline is looming to apply for school places in Bedford borough.

About 8% of parents missed the deadline for applying for a “Starting School” place in 2014.

As a result, some children were not able to go to their preferred school because it was already full when their application was received.

Last year, Bedford Borough Council received 190 late applications.

Cllr Henry Vann, Portfolio Holder for Education at Bedford Borough Council said: “We work closely with our schools and pre-schools to make sure parents have the information to allow them to request a school place. We want to avoid people submitting late applications for children, some of whom have brothers or sisters at the school they want to go to and would be greatly disappointed if there were no places left.”

Don’t miss the chance for your child because submitting a late application significantly reduces your child’s chance of an offer of a place at one of your preferred schools.

If you are a parent or carer of a child born between 01/09/10 and 31/08/11, then you need to apply for a school place before January 15, 2015. You can apply online at www.bedford.gov.uk/onlineadmissions or complete an application form. Before you apply, please read carefully the ‘Starting School’ booklet at www.bedford.gov.uk/admissions
