The Life and Times of John Bunyan, who was born in Elstow in 1628 and baptised in the village church, is the subject of this weekend’s guided walk.
He travelled the area with his tinker father and would have known the town and the county better than many, and his most famous work, The Pilgrims Progress, is based on locations that he knew very well.
Bunyan also lived in Bedford from 1655 to 1688, at his home in St Cuthbert’s Street or sadly in the old Bedford Prison.
The orchard that he purchased with the congregation to provide their first church has long gone but the site and on it the subsequent church remains, still owned and used for worship by the Bunyan Meeting.
Call the Tourist Information Centre on 01234 718112 to book a place. The cost is £3 for adults and £1.50 for children.
