Debate due on UCC closure

Council chiefs will vote on whether to close Queens Park Urban Community Council at a meeting on Wednesday night.

Bedford Borough Council’s executive will consider a report recommending that the group be abolished.

Urban community councils were set up in 1994 as a pilot project. It was hoped that the groups would become parish councils and take on more responsibility, but Queens Park UCC members voted against this in favour of keeping things the same.
