Deadline to have your say on traveller pitches

Another 100 pitches could be built in Bedfordshire

Anyone wishing to have their say on plans to build new gypsy and traveller sites in Bedfordshire has until Friday, May 16 to make their point.

The Government has announced that every local authority in the region will have to provide at least another 15 pitches by 2011. And in Bedfordshire it is expected that the total number of pitches will have to rise from 156 to 256.

Tim Freathy, Acting Deputy Regional Director of the Government Office for the East of England said: "It is important to engage with the Gypsy and Traveller community.

"By providing enough authorised sites to meet people's needs we can reduce unauthorised encampments and help to end friction with settled communities."
