An Irish Dancing school which has had some of its members appear on the hit show Riverdance is returning to Bedford, where it was founded.

The Brooks Academy of Irish Dancing, which is also sending participants to the prestigious World Championships in London next month, was established in the town 40 years ago by John Brooks.

The academy runs classes all over Bedfordshire but is planning to start a new class in the town after Easter led by Deborah Walshe, part of the academy’s teaching team.

She said: “In the past year alone dancers from The Brooks Academy have won Great Britain, British National and Regional Championship titles, along with two World Medal Holders.

“Our dancers have also gone on to star in Irish Dance shows such as Riverdance and Gaelforce.

“The academy has also gone on to feature on television, and dancers from the school were invited to perform for the Papal visit in Hyde Park.”

The Brooks Academy has enjoyed considerable success over the years, boasting numerous champions at national and international level.

The school has had a very successful year and will be sending 12 individual solo qualifiers and five teams to the World Championships to be held at the Hilton Metropole in London next month.

Deborah joined the academy in 2004 when her daughter became a pupil at the school, and has she has recently passed her adjudicator’s exam qualifying her to judge Irish Dancing Competitions.

She added: “Irish dancing is fantastic form of exercise, and very sociable too.

“Children will have the opportunity to meet lots of new friends and although the academy is a competitive Irish Dancing school, children can choose to dance purely for exercise and fun.”

The new Bedford class will be held every Thursday from 4pm to 5pm at St Mary’s Church Hall, Church Lane, Goldington, MK41 0AP, and welcomes boys and girls from the age of 4 upwards.

The Brooks Academy dancers are also available to perform at your event and you can contact them for further details.
