A Bedford woman is gearing herself for the challenge of a lifetime - an Alpine charity cycle ride with rugby stars including Lawrence Dallaglio.

Paula Robertson will be joining members of the 2003 England Rugby World Cup winning squad for the challenge in June with rugby legend Dallaglio, along with 300 other riders.

Will Greenwood and Austin Healey are also on the ride as they attempt Lawrence’s biggest cycling test yet - 2,500 kilometres from northern Italy to the home of English rugby, Twickenham, in aid of the Dallglio Foundation.

Paula said: ”I work for Lawrence’s Foundation and I’ve spent years telling people about previous rides. This year I thought I’d put my money where my muscles are! Lawrence is an inspirational leader. We are all looking forward to the camaraderie that comes from taking part.”

Dallaglio, in true adrenalin junkie style, has made the 2014 route harder than previous events to raise over £1m for his foundation, which uses sport to help young people tackle life’s challenges.

Icon Lawrence had a message for the people of Bedford saying: “It will be a gruelling test of stamina and endurance.

“Paula and I will be riding through some of the toughest terrain in Europe. I am so grateful to her for making such a supreme effort for my foundation - I hope the good people of Bedford will continue to support her fundraising efforts.”
