A young woman was followed home through Bedford town centre by a man making sexual gestures.

Police in Bedford are appealing for witnesses to come forward after the suspicious incident.

A 22-year-old woman was subjected to verbal abuse and indecent gestures as she walked home from work on Monday, January 6.

The victim was walking along Linden Road and in to the town centre at about 5.05pm when a man began walking close to her and making indecent suggestions.

The victim walked along Silver Street and visited Poundland before making her way towards Queens Park as the man continued to follow her making sexual gestures towards the victim.

As the victim reached Coventry Road the man grabbed her wrist but fortunately the victim managed to break free and reached her home from where she raised the alarm.

The man is described as a man with a dark complexion, possibly mixed race, mid to late 20s, with a slim build, and short black curly hair. He wore a black long sleeved leather jacket, black tracksuit bottoms and black training shoes.

PC Ben Craven, investigating, said: “Luckily the victim was not seriously hurt but the behaviour this man was displaying is a concern and has frightened the victim. Bedford town centre is extremely busy at this time of the day and I would appeal to anyone who saw a man fitting this description behaving suspiciously in Bedford on Monday evening to come forward and assist this investigation.”
