BBC 1s Crimewatch will be appealing for information about the rape of a 20 year old woman at Santa Pod raceway as they reconstruct the incident in a programme which will be broadcast tonight, Tuesday September 16.
The appeal programme, which will be broadcast at 10.40pm, features the incident which took place in the early hours of Sunday, July 13 after the victim had attended the Dragstalgia event throughout Saturday, July 12 and had been in the bar area that night.
The victim left the bar with an acquaintance called Darren at around 1am and walked with him to the tent he was staying in. After leaving the tent at around 1.30am, the victim was making her way off the site when she was grabbed by the hair and seriously assaulted by two white men.
Following the ordeal, the victim made her way to Event Security and the police were called.
The officer in charge of the investigation, Detective Inspector Jerry Waite, has particularly keen to locate ‘Darren’ – who is believed to be from the Wellingborough area – who may hold valuable information.
DI Waite said: “Working with BBC Crimewatch has given us a real opportunity to open up this case by reaching millions of people across the country, one of who might just have the information we are looking for. We know that people from all over the country were at the event but they may not be aware of what happened or the appeals that have already taken place.
“The victim has shown great courage to provide Bedfordshire Police and Crimewatch with information about what happened back in July and I really hope that somebody is able to come forward and provide the key piece of information that we need in this case.”
Anyone with information relating to this incident can contact DI Waite and his team, in confidence, on the non-emergency 101 number, or text information to 07786 200011. Alternatively you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
