A woman and a teenage boy have appeared in court charged with trying to get banned items into HMP Bedford.

Ruth Chinsammy, 50, of Wormholt Road, London, and a 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were arrested after officers were called to suspicious activity outside the prison in Adelaide Square at about 2am on Saturday, May 9.

They were charged with attempting to bring/throw/convey cannabis, mobile phones and SIM cards into the prison.

They both appeared at Luton Magistrates’ Court on Monday, May 11, where they were bailed until June 2.
