More than 500 Special Constable carried out a three-day crackdown on crime across the Eastern Region.

The officers, from Beds, Cambs, Essex, Herts, Norfolk and Suffolk jointly volunteered 4,000 hours in dedicated operations and support for regular colleagues.

In Bedfordshire, 100 Special Constables volunteered at Luton Airport, on night time economy shifts, and with crime prevention work.

They also continued their on-going Specials-led ANPR operation and stopped 100 cars. The team made eight arrests.

The extra hours were given during National Specials’ Weekend (June 3 to June 5).

In total, there were 14 arrests across the region. Around 600 drivers were advised, 50 received warnings for excessive speed and more than 10 cars were seized as the drivers had no insurance.
