Shop worker injured during robbery at store

A 46-year-old shop worker was injured during a robbery in Kempston today, Friday, January 31, and police are appealing for witnesses.

The incident happened at the One Stop shop in Hillgrounds at approximately 8am when a man wearing dark clothing, entered the store by the back door and assaulted the woman before removing cash from the safe.

During the incident the shop worker sustained facial injuries and was taken to Bedford Hospital for treatment.

The man left the shop via the back door and headed towards Kingstop Close leading to the Hartwell Drive area.

The officer in charge of this investigation, DC Emma Langwith, is keen to trace anyone who was in the area at the time of the robbery.

DC Langwith said: “This is a busy area of Kempston and I’m sure there was a number of people out and about making their way to work. I would urge anyone who saw this man in the area to come forward and speak to the police, in confidence.”

The offender is described as being around 6ft tall and wearing a black woolly hat, with a dark scarf and a dark jacket.
