Police inspector charged with two counts of rape

A Bedfordshire Police officer has been charged with serious offences following an investigation by the Beds, Cambs and Herts Major Crime Unit.

Paul Kelly, aged 43, of Bedford Road, Denton, Northamptonshire, who works as an Inspector in Bedford, has been charged with two counts of rape, two counts of ABH and one count of sexual assault.

He has been released on bail and is due to appear before St Albans Magistrates on April 7.

Mr Kelly was suspended in December.

Bedfordshire Police says it takes allegations of any misconduct” extremely seriously” and immediately launched a proactive investigation as soon as concerns were raised.
