Police are seeking witnesses and information after the Italian flag-burning incident after the England-Italy game on Saturday, June 14.

While most of the large crowd that gathered outside in the High Street as the final whistle blew were good natured, there were a couple of incidents of concern.

One man has already been charged in connection with letting off flares in the High Street.

Another man was arrested on Thursday, June 19 under the Public Order Act directly in connection with the flag-burning incident. He has been released on police bail with stringent conditions prohibiting him entering the town centre while the World Cup is on-going.

However, officers would like to trace a number of further people in connection with the flag burning incident.

Sgt Mike Chand of the Prisoner Handling Unit at Greyfriars Police Station would also like to hear from anyone who was present on the evening and saw or heard any part of the flag burning incident.

The PHU can be contacted direct on 01234 275143, or through the police non-emergency number 101, or alternatively contact independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
