A sergeant has been sacked by Bedfordshire Police after being found guilty of assaulting a woman.

Sgt Michael Pinsent was found to have breached standards of professional behaviour at a special case hearing at Beds Police headquarters on Wednesday, May 4.

A finding of discreditable conduct which amounted to gross misconduct was upheld at the hearing.

Pinsent had been convicted of common assault against the woman after a trial at Luton Magistrates’ Court in January. The assault occurred while Pinsent was off duty on July 3 last year. After his conviction, Pinsent was fined a total of £1,700 which included court costs and compensation to the victim.

Beds Police stated: “Sgt Pinsent was dismissed without notice.”
