A 26-year-old man suffered serious facial injuries following an assault which took place in London Road, Bedford in the early hours of Sunday morning, June 15.

The incident took place at around 2.20am as the victim was making his way home after a night out in Bedford town centre.

As he passed the Park Inn hotel he became involved in an incident where another member of the public was being assaulted by a group of four mixed race men.

After a brief exchange of views, the victim walked away and continued his journey home but as he made his way across the bridge on London Road he was attacked from behind. The offenders knocked the man to the floor and started punching and kicking him to the head.

Police officers and members of the ambulance service quickly attended the scene and the victim was taken to hospital for treatment. He suffered a broken eye socket as well as bruising and swelling to the face and head.

Detective Constable Amanda Durrant, who is investigating the incident, is keen to speak with anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen the offenders or the assault taking place. She is also keen to speak with the member of the public who was involved in the earlier altercation near to the Park Inn hotel.

DC Durrant said: “This was a violent and seemingly unprovoked attack which has left the victim with some very serious injuries to his eye, face and head. I would urge anyone with any information about this incident to get in contact as soon as possible so we can locate the people responsible.”
