Hunt is on for armed robber in village store raid

CCTV images of an armed robber have been released by Bedfordshire Police.

The man entered the Parklands Food and Wine store, in High Street Cranfield, and threatened the shop assistant with a knife.

He approached the assistant behind the shop counter and demanded him to open the cash till. On refusal, the man attempted to open the till himself but failed.

The man left the store with a quantity of cigarettes and headed towards the park area.

The officer in charge of this investigation, DC Jason Wheeler, is keen to trace anyone who can identify the man shown in the CCTV images.

DC Wheeler said: “It is hoped these images will motivate anyone who knows the identity of the man responsible to come forward and assist this investigation.

He continued: “This is a busy area of Cranfield and I’m sure there were a number of people out and about. I would urge anyone who may of seen this man in the area prior to or after the robbery to come forward and speak to the police, in confidence.”

The incident took place on Wednesday, June 11, at approximately 9.05pm.

The offender is described as being around 5’9” tall and wearing a white hat, with a green scarf and a dark jacket.
