A ‘sickening and deceitful’ man has been jailed for having sex with an underage girl.

Cosmin Raduta, 28, of Gibbons Road, Bedford, was sentenced to seven years at Luton Crown Court today (Friday) having pleaded guilty to five counts of sexual activity with a girl aged between 13 and 15.

The incidents happened between June and September 2014 after Raduta had met his victim at a party.

Detective Constable Alison Whitworth, from the Bedfordshire Police Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) unit, said: “Raduta acted in a sickening and deceitful way, making his victim think that they were in a relationship and having sex with her on several occasions, despite knowing that she was below the age of consent.

“Young girls may see the acts carried out by people such as Raduta as signs of love and affection, they may not initially realise that they are victims of sexual abuse. But this type of behaviour is never acceptable, it is illegal, and those responsible will be punished.

“Bedfordshire Police is committed to tackling sexual predators such as Raduta and bringing them to justice in order to help fight crime and protect the children of our communities.”

Raduta will also be issued an indefinite sexual harm prevention order on his release.
