A couple from Bedford have been jailed after admitting a series of sexual offences against their own children.

The man and woman, aged 47 and 34 respectively, will each serve six and a half years behind bars for their acts, following a hearing in Luton Crown Court today (Friday).

The woman pleaded guilty to two charges of making indecent photographs of children, one count of distributing an indecent photograph of a child and one count of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

The man pleaded guilty to two counts of making indecent photographs of children and one count of possessing an indecent photograph of a child.

Bedfordshire Police launched an investigation after disclosures were made about inappropriate activity between the family members, which took place at the home they were sharing earlier this year.

The victims were both aged under 16 at the time of the sickening crimes, and were coerced into posing for indecent images and videos of themselves, which the offenders captured on mobile phones.

One of the victims was also incited to use a sex toy while being filmed and photographed.

Detective Constable Sarah Brookes, from the Bedfordshire Police Safeguarding Unit, said: “This was a particularly stomach-churning series of crimes, in which two young girls were coerced by those in a position of trust into performing vile acts for the offenders’ sexual gratification.

“Though they may be too young to realise the full extent of what has happened to them, these offences will no doubt stay with these innocent victims for life. For this reason I am pleased the courts have issued a custodial sentence and this repulsive pair will spend time behind bars.

“This case demonstrates the strength of working together with our partner agencies such as Bedford Borough Council and the local children safeguarding board. In particular the work of the children’s social services was crucial in being able to bring the offenders to justice.”

The woman pleaded guilty to four counts and will serve two 12 month sentences, a two year sentence, and a six and a half year sentence concurrently.

The man pleaded guilty to three counts and will serve two three month sentences and a six and a half year sentence concurrently.
