Compost bins offer for homes

Bedford borough residents are being offered the opportunity to recycle even more by taking advantage of a subsidy on compost bins for the home.

Household organic waste can be easily recycled in a compost bin and used as a fantastic peat-free compost which can improve the quality and quantity of home-grown fruit and vegetables.

Councillor Charles Royden, portfolio holder for the environment, said: “More than 30 per cent of the average household bin can be composted and although many households already compost at home, we want others to get involved.

“Home composting organically also helps to significantly reduce carbon emissions and also helps to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.”
