Two local composers have been shortlisted in one of the UK’s most prestigious music awards.
Shefford resident Samuel Bordoli and Bedford-born Richard Bullen are both on the shortlist for this year’s British Composer Awards.
At age 28, Samuel is one of the youngest composers nominated. Bedford-born Samuel, who attended Wootton School, went on to study at the Birmingham Conservatoire and the Royal Academy of Music. He has been mentored by Sir Peter Maxwell Davies.
Samuel has been shortlisted in the Community or Education Project category for a choral piece composed to the rhythm of skateboarders.
Richard, aged 31, who attended Bedford Modern School, recently completed a PhD with David Sawer at the Royal Academy of Music, where he also had lessons with Sir Peter Maxwell Davies and Sir Harrison Birtwistle.
Richard has been shortlisted in the Amateur or Young Performers category for a piece inspired by Umberto Boccioni’s 1912 Futurist painting Visioni Simultanee.
BBC Radio 3 will broadcast a programme dedicated to the ceremony on December 12.
