Buffalo burgers are now on the menu at a new café in town.
Bluberi Cafe, based in the High Street, specialises in serving frozen yoghurt as a healthy alternative to ice-cream but now also has buffalo burgers, and venison hot dogs and burgers on its menu.
The new café has been open for around a month and it has been serving the new addition for around two weeks.
And owner James Jandu invited the Times & Citizen to try out the new items on the menu.
Everyone likes a good burger and I am no exception, but I have always stuck to your standard beef or chicken.
So I was quite excited at the thought of trying out the new buffalo varieties on offer.
I actually found them very tasty – they taste similar to your standard beefburger but in my opinion have a bit more of a meaty texture.
And I think I may have even preferred the buffalo burger to the beef.
James explained that he is keen to get other unique items on the menu as well.
He said: “Buffalo isn’t much different to beef, but in my opinion it is richer and much nicer. It is also a more healthy alternative to beef.
“I just wanted to do something a little bit different and as far as I’m aware nowhere else in Bedford sells buffalo burgers.
“We were thinking what we could serve that was a bit unique and buffalo came up and so did venison.
“It has been very popular so far, our customers seems to like it when they try it. I would say the buffalo has sold a bit better than the venison, but hopefully that will take off as well.”
The meals that come with chips and salad are selling for a value-busting £4.95.
James is also looking at introducing samosas and other unique meats including zebra.
He added: “We want to make sure we are thinking all the time about what we can bring in. We just want to offer people something different, something they can’t get elsewhere in Bedford.”
The cafe also sells a range of breakfast items, and sandwiches and paninis.
