Three grandchildren made a special trip to Bedford from Italy to celebrate their grandmother’s 100th birthday.
Natalina Colangelo, who is cared for at St Margaret’s residential home in Rothsay Road, celebrated her 100th birthday last Wednesday with a special family party.
Italian Natalina was born on December 17, 1913 in the village of Foglianise in the province of Benevento in Italy. She was the second eldest of 12 children. Sadly two of her siblings died when they were young.
She married on September 25, 1939 to Salvatore Colangelo, who sadly passed away 21 years ago.
In 1955 the couple moved to the UK and settled in Buckinghamshire with their two children.
Natalina now has six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Daughter Maria Marchant said: “She used to help her daughters by looking after he grandchildren during school holidays and whenever necessary.
“Her grandchildren are very close to her. So much so, that three of her grandchildren Maria, Sergio and Anna who live in Italy made the sepcial trip to celebrate with the rest of the family.”
In 1992 Natalina moved to a ward assisted complex in Bedford to be near her daughters. But after several falls she moved into St Margaret’s Home last June.
