Castle Quarter Bedford Christmas lights switch on.

Bedfordshire’s Fire Chief Paul Fuller led the countdown to the switch on of Christmas lights in the Castle Quarter of Bedford on Sunday, December 8.

Mr Fuller joined Karen Fryc of the Castle Quarter and the Rock Choir who sang Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree with fire safety messages during the Your Home is Your Castle event.

Two children, who won a fire safety painting competition, signalled the switch-on of the lights by pressing a fire engine siren at 4.45pm.

The event was the finale of the season-long ‘Your Home is Your Castle’ campaign which has encouraged people to check electrical appliances such as electric blankets, heaters and festive lights and to make sure they have a working smoke detector.

The full range of safety messages was included in the lyrics to the special fire service version of Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.

Last year’s countywide Christmas hit – Rocking Around the Christmas Tree with words by the Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service has been given a remix for 2013.

Singing sensation Rock Choir performed the familiar tune with the fire safety messaging words at the Castle Quarter Christmas event on Sunday.

Local Rock Choir leader Charlotte Greenhow and Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue’s Thomas Warner conducted the choir for this song.

Thomas and colleagues also recorded the song for Christmas 2012.
