Christopher Holmes, 35, from Bedford, stood trial for attempted murder at Luton Crown Court this week and was today (Friday) sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty.

Holmes fraudulently claimed he was carrying knives for protection and wanted to make amends, but in the week long trial the court heard of his cold and calculated actions and how he lay in wait at his former partner’s address.

On Monday, January 4, Holmes forced entry to the victim’s house armed with a knife when he knew both her and her boyfriend were inside. He viciously assaulted his ex-partner and stabbed her boyfriend in the chest and back, causing serious injuries.

The attack is said to have taken place at a house in Mill Lane, Greenfield, near Pulloxhill, which Holmes, had not long before shared with his then-girlfriend, Louise Holmes.

The judge ruled that Holmes was a dangerous man and handed him a minimum term of 10 years in order to keep the people of Bedfordshire safe.

PC Emily Clark, investing officer from the force Domestic Abuse Investigation and Safeguarding Unit, said: “This was a nasty and savage planned attack that caused serious injury and we are fortunate that the victims survived such venom.

“We welcome this sentence, Holmes intended to kill his victims and acted with brazen violence. We worked hard to ensure this dangerous man is taken from the streets for a long time.

“Domestic abuse is a priority for Bedfordshire Police and it will not be tolerated. This cruel crime damages the lives of too many people and this case is a stark reminder of the serious consequences of such abuse. We are dedicated to tackling aggressive and vicious offenders and take all reports seriously. We hope this case sends a clear message that anyone who thinks they can use such violence faces a lengthy term behind bars.”
