Children and staff at a nursery in Elstow have been celebrating World Book Day by bringing characters to life.

The Just Learning Nursery, part of the Busy Bees Group, had a whale of a time dressing up to enjoy some of their much-loved literary heroes.

Children at the nursery appeared as characters such as Cat in the Hat, Gruffolo’s Child and Little Red Riding Hood before enjoying an animated story time in the nursery’s designated storytelling corner, with cosy blankets, beanbags and pictures to capture their imagination.

Nursery manager Sara Vobe said: “Stories capture the hearts and minds of everyone. We at Busy Bees believe passionately that reading and creating stories with our children is the best foundation for a successful reading programme – one that will benefit their school years and enhance the rest of their lives.

“We are lucky to have such wonderful resources at our nurseries such as story sacks with puppets and props for all, talk time baskets for our babies to two year olds, language cards for our two to three’s and literacy cards and mobile library visits for our pre-school academy children where they can choose a book to take home to share with their family.”
