The Ampthill Festival will close with a right old knees up as rockney legends Chas ‘n’ Dave take to the stage.

And to please fans further, the gig will be free.

Singer and pianist Chas Hodges said: “We’re counting down the days to playing in that beautiful park in Ampthill.

“It is an absolutely stunning venue and to play a free gig to the good people of Bedfordshire ain’t a bad way to spend a sunny afternoon - we can’t wait!”

Chas & Dave found fame in the 1980s with their pub-singalong style and humorous lyrics, with in hits such as Gertcha, Ain’t No Pleasing You and Rabbit.

The duo have enjoyed a huge renaissance in recent years after the likes of Jools Holland and Libertines frontman Pete Doherty cited them as major influences.

Festival chairman Richard Benson said: “We thought long and hard about this and agreed it would be good to thank everyone who has helped support and grow our festival, raising thousands of pounds for local charities in the process.

“So this year we invite music fans, young and old, to enjoy Chas & Dave - and we are footing the bill!”

Chas ‘n’ Dave will play at 5.30pm on Sunday, July 5. For more details, go to www.ampthillfestival.co.uk
