A song dedicated to the memory of a musician’s daughter has been released in time for Christmas.

You Should Be Here was written and performed by Denny McCaffrey and Mark Ayles, whose four-year-old girl, Maia, died after a long illness, in 2003.

Mark said he is keen the song is not seen as a sad memorial and hopes it will resonate with those who are missing someone at Christmas.

Denny added: “We recorded it at the beginning of the year and realised the words and music could mean a lot of things to a lot of people, especially at this time of year.”

The pair recorded the traditional, jazzy and soulful ballad with the Denny McCaffrey Band, in Soham, Cambridgeshire. The accompanying video was shot in Stagsden and Luton.

As well has playing keyboard with several bands, Mark works in special needs schools in Kempston, Biggleswade and Dunstable, as a music facilitator.

Bedford-based Denny has been a musician for more than 30 years and works as a driver trainer.

You Should Be Here is available on iTunes, google play and other online stores. Mark and Denny are due to play The Castle, Newnham Street, on Sunday, January 11. For more information, go to dennymccaffrey.co.uk
