Senior representatives from a company contracted by the Chinese government to bring forward regeneration in their homeland has visited Bedford borough.
Thirty senior personnel and decision makers from China Fortune Land Development Co. Ltd, a leading expert in investment and operations of industrial area in China, toured the borough’s new employment and residential settlements.
They looked at layout and links to facilities to learn how schemes are brought forward in the UK and to use as good practice for future projects.
The delegation received presentations on Bedford’s business base, employment land opportunities and how Bedford Borough Council works with developers in identifying and bringing forward new employment and residential sites, with Wixams and Priory Business Park used as examples.
Mayor Dave Hodgson, said: “It speaks volumes that the Chinese delegation were so keen to visit and learn more about regeneration in practice here in Bedford borough.
“Bedford borough has benefitted from a series of major developments and infrastructure projects in recent years, and we were pleased to discuss our experiences with the members of the delegation.”
The visit was initiated by borough resident Yang Song after having approached Councillor Colleen Atkins who introduced him to the mayor.
Cllr Atkins said: “It is a tribute to the borough that the Chinese delegation travelled all the way to Bedford.
“I’d be delighted if there are future opportunities to bring Chinese tourism to Bedford with our wonderful history and tourist attractions.”
