Some of the country’s best loved children’s authors, including Britain’s Children’s Laureate, will be coming to Bedford this weekend to help celebrate the opening of a bookshop for younger readers.

Rogan’s Books will officially open at 10am on Saturday, October 24 with activities, book signings and appearances by national and local authors.

These will include Chris Riddell, Children’s Laureate (The Edge Chronicles, Goth Girl, Mr Underbed), Steve Cole (Stop Those Monsters!, Young Bond), David Litchfield (The Bear and the Piano), Katharine James and Katy Dynes (Archie’s Rugby Dream) and Lloyd Lugsden (The Noisiest Band in the Land).

The bookshop is the brainchild of local mum and organiser of Booktastic Book Festival, Rachael Rogan, who wants children to rediscover the fun of visiting a bookshop and choosing their own books to read.

She said: “Children love reading and it’s so heart-warming to see how passionate they get about their favourite literary characters and stories. It’s easy to get books online but I hope Rogan’s Books can become a place where children can bring their parents and show them the books they would like to read, and also play and meet other children who share their love of reading.”

Once open the book shop will also be a venue for future children’s literature events, including after school readings, holiday workshops, baby and toddler reading groups and also reading events for mums and dads.
